Geronimo! A Review of Doctor Who S06E04 The Doctor’s Wife.

Sorry about the late review my sweets. School happened. Next week might be even later, or perhaps I’ll review the whole double episode in one. We’ll see.

Well, wasn’t the Doctor’s Wife a great episode! Definitely one of my favourites, if not my favourite episode I have seen, Old Who included. Neil Gaiman really captured the TARDIS well and Surrane Jones pulled it off perfectly. Matt Smith was once again in his element and I really bought his performance, particularly at the end when he was saying goodbye to Idris. I really liked Aunty and Uncle too, especially when they “just died”.

This episode was spoiled for me. I went onto the BBC website to get the Ood mask and due to broadcast delays in Australia the picture of the TARDIS/Idris ruined the whole episode for me. After this thought, I was completely caught up in the excitement and thought it was a brilliant concept. To personify the TARDIS was just an amazing idea. In confidential Neil Gaiman said that the whole episode is based around the scene where the TARDIS and the Doctor talked. That was the second best scene in the whole episode (the first being the goodbye/hello scene).

Basically, I loved every minute of it. Actually change that, every minute except where Amy was crying over Rory’s dead body, mainly because I just thought, “and Rory’s dead again” and he crying was just annoying. But I did like her crying because I though, “yeah, suck on that bitch! Now, don’t sleep with the Doctor or I will kill you”...

Thoughts
·         Did anyone notice that Amy clutched her stomach when she saw Rory, dead on the floor? Pregnant Amy?

·         What comes to Rory and hurt him? Is it the Silence, as I think that there are Silence inside the TARDIS (kudos to Jess for pointing it out). Did House set the Silence on him? Or was it just House himself? It obviously did happen, but was erased from time by House and therefore reset events for Rory.
·         Why couldn’t Amy see Nephew when it was dark, yet there was a clear sign of light illuminated from the Ood ball? Perhaps House covered Amy’s vision of the Ood ball too.

·         The series is playing on parallel universes: this was in a “bubble universe” and the last episode had universes overlapping. Perhaps the dead Doctor from the first episode was from a parallel universe which didn’t need him. Not that any universe wouldn’t need him.
·         “The only water in the forest is the river” is most definitely a link to a future episode. Or will it be the past episode where River is in the Byzantium forest? This quote was also in the Brilliant Book 2011, so I wonder how many other things are true.
·         In the beginning of the goodbye/hello scene, Matt Smith totally looked at Surrane’s boobs.

·         I really liked how you could see House slowly taking over the TARDIS. You could see the green light slowly enveloping the old control room.

·         The planet looked like an Ood.

·         I found one continuity error. When Idris collapses, her hand is on the Doctor’s arm, then in another shot it is on his chest.

·         I have a theory that the little astronaut girl is a TARDIS. Here’s how I know:
o   The sparkly energy
o   The Doctor trusts the TARDIS enough to let it kill him
o   Both the girl and Idris were sick, their body’s being weak, and it would make sense if the Silence wanted to maintain the girls body.

Quotes
·         “Bunk beds are cool! A bed, with a ladder!” – The Doctor
·         “DIE AMY, KILL AMY HATE AMY” – written on TARDIS walls

·         “Hello pretty!” – From Idris/TARDIS to Rory, then the Doctor being weirded out.
·         “You’re like a sea urchin? Hard outer surface, that’s the planet we’re walking on. Big squashy yoogli thing inside, that’s you.” – The Doctor
·         “You’re doing it you sexy thing!” – The Doctor

·         “Did you wish really hard?” – Amy about the TARDIS being a woman.
·         “Biting’s excellent! It’s like kissing, only there’s a winner.” – Idris/TARDIS

Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Geronimo! – A Review of Doctor Who S06E03 Curse of the Black Spot

Sorry about the wait me-hearties. ‘Twas not able to view this piece of art until the full moon was present over my ship. Nah, not really, the fastracking is just really crap in Australia and I wasn’t able to obtain this episode from my boyfriend. So I had to wait for it to actually be on TV. Damn.

Now, to the review.
I have heard many reviews about this episode, mainly from podcasts. They are all divided. Half of them like it, half of them hate it. I’m in the former – I found it quite good. I mean, like everyone else, I found it to be a ‘meh’ episode, but it was still decent Doctor Who. There was a decent storyline, a fabulous set and a terrific cast. But I LOVED the Doctor’s dialogue throughout the whole thing. I loved how he tried and failed to make sense of the TARDIS to the pirates. I loved how he wasn’t trying to take over the captains role, but he did and when asked if we wanted to take the lead he said “Darkness, demon, you can have first go.” I also loved the music. Murray Gold obviously drew inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean and it sounded spectacular!

I said I was going to try and write proper reviews, but I really don’t know how. So, I’ll just write what I like and don’t like, just as I did last time.
Good
·         The Doctor hugging the TARDIS and kissing it when he finds it in the sickbay

"Toby!" "Rory!" "The TARDIS!"

Bad
·         I don’t like Amy. I didn’t like her previously because she was always after the Doctor and I felt bad for Rory, but in this episode she blames Rory for saying that the Siren is pretty when he was under an enchantment. It just REALLY annoyed me.
·         I don’t like how the Doctor’s girly sneeze always ruins his position. It happened in this episode and in the Impossible Astronaut.

Weird
·         Where did the other pirate go from the gun powder room when the other went off on mutiny?
·         How did the pirates know how to fly the spaceship? I found a brilliant sketch on this in the latest episode of the Ood Cast (http://www.theoodcast.com) or find it on iTunes by typing in Ood Cast into the search bar.
·         Why weren’t the trio taken to the sickbay when they were on the spaceship?

Recurring
·         Eye-patch Lady: Many people think that she is Amy’s midwife for when she gives birth. I just think she’s a random person

·         Amy’s pregnancy
·         Spacesuit Timelady/girl
·         Seeing as this episode was moved from the latter half of series 7, then, these things will be resolved at the end or series 7, not 6.
Thoughts
·         The whole series seem to revolve around parallel universes. In the next episode, it is set in a parallel universe (sorry, spoilers)
·         The TARDIS was pulled into the sick bay. Does this mean that the TARDIS is sick? Is this because the Doctor doesn’t fly it properly
·         I have noticed recently that the Eleventh Doctor is allowing more and more people into his TARDIS. I don’t think this is particularly good or bad, it’s just you wouldn’t find any other Doctor’s inviting randoms into the TARDIS. First there was Nasreen in the Hungry Earth, then Abigail and Kazran in Christmas Carol, and now Captain Avery.

Favourite Quotes
“We’re sailors! Just like you! Except for the gun thing. And the beardyness.” – The Doctor
“If something’s going to kill you, it’s nice that it drops a note to remind you.” – The Doctor
“Green singing shark in an evening gown.” – The Doctor
“She’s out there now, licking her lips, boiling the saucepan, grating the cheese.” – The Doctor
“That does very very complicated, that does sophisticated, that does woo amazing and that does whiz bang far too technical to explain.” – The Doctor
“Toby! Rory! The TARDIS!” – Avery, Amy, The Doctor

Alien bogies

"A little more laughter please!"

BOO!

Fogging the shiny...

"You should go out with him!"

Swashbuckling

Ahoy me hearties!

The Bus Stop

She sees him,
Just standing there
Next to his love.

She wished he
Could see her
Wanting him
So much.

His one love,
Laughing
At his jokes.

She sees them,
Standing there
At the bus stop,
Soaked by the rain.

But they’re
Not really there,
Just a shadow.

Taken away so
Unfairly from her.
Taken away,
By the ghost bus.

Until next time, Adios Amigos!

Geronimo! A Review of Doctor Who S06E02 Day of the Moon

Well, it’s been a week since Doctor Who – The Impossible Astronaut aired in Australia and I have now managed to see Day of the Moon. It has come around once again for me to review the episode, but seeing as I’m not very good at review, I think it’s more like speculation...

Anyway, I’d first like to say what a brilliant episode it is. Steven Moffat has been brought down in several reviews in relation to the episode, but I think it’s just brilliant. As I’m terrible at reviews, I might just list the things I did like, things I didn’t like,  things I found suspicious and the things I think will be seen in future episodes. And I’m lazy to write a review anyway.

Likes:
·         Seeing the Silence uncurl when River is on the rooftop. It really scared the bejeebees out of me.
·         The Doctor messing with Apollo 11
·         The Doctor biting his handcuffs
·         Seeing the hologram of the Silent in the TARDIS was like WHAT THE HELL!?
·         The Doctor clicking his fingers to salute the President
·         Rory breaking the model and trying to stick it back on. Then saluting the two men.
·         The Doctor’s reaction to the kiss – a scratch of the face
·         The Doctor and River flirting about how many Silents she would kill
·         The Doctor trying to help with his screwdriver and getting told to “shut up and drive” by River
·         The use of the President whenever he’s in trouble
·         Rory listening to Amy and promising to get to her, “She can always hear me ... She always knows I’m coming for her”

Flirting...

Invisi-TARDIS

Enter the President of the United States

Rory's coming for you Amy. No. Rory's bringing the Doctor for you Amy.

"America salutes you!"

Dislikes:
·         CGI of River diving into the TARDIS pool
·         Beardy Doctor
·         The orphanage guy
·         How the Silence sleep like the Krillitanes
·         How the Silence sound like Darth Vader
·         You can tell the Silence have rubber hands

Strange things:
·         Writing on the orphanage walls, obviously by the girl
·         The hologram of the woman in the door of the girls bedroom – she looks familiar
·         The Doctor can’t taste anything on the envelope because it’s his saliva. But the Doctor says “Interesting” after kissing River, so perhaps he’s mad the connection to who licked the envelopes
·         Amy’s uncertain pregnancy
·         The picture of Amy with the baby
·         Is the little girl River? She is able to regenerate and it seems he River’s first appearance to the Doctor will be the Doctor’s last time, just like with River Song in the library.
·         Why was the Spaceman trying to eat the little girl?
·         Is the little girl Jenny?
·         How did River see the Silent behind her when shooting it in front of Rory?

Pregnant?

Three words: What. The. Hell.

How did she know it was there?

Who is she?
